Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Rosemead public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Speed hump policy overhaul
The current policy requires 67% of all households on a street to approve a speed hump — and zero of 16 requests have passed. Teachers and parents described dangerous traffic at Willard Elementary; the council will reconsider the whole policy on November 10.
Proposed Garvey Avenue peak-hour bus lane (Jump-Start project)
Rosemead agreed to a rush-hour-only bus lane pilot on Garvey Avenue with no parking removed and an escape clause to revert. Supporters say it speeds buses for riders who depend on transit; opponents warn it will slow drivers, hurt Garvey businesses, and funnel traffic onto neighborhood streets.
Street Rehabilitation Contract (CIP 21034, 21850, 24009)
The city is spending $2.79 million repaving streets and fixing concrete, plus resurfacing two public parking lots. Better roads mean fewer pothole complaints and smoother commutes.
